Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga is an Emmy®-winning VR narrative directed by Eric Darnell for Baobab Studios, where viewers become the protagonist in a haunting and emotionally charged fairy tale. In this interactive story, when the viewer’s mother—the village Chief—falls gravely ill, they and their sister Magda (voiced by Daisy Ridley) must venture into a mystical, enchanted forest to seek a cure from the enigmatic witch Baba Yaga (voiced by Kate Winslet). Their choices throughout the story influence the narrative’s outcome, exploring themes of courage, balance between humanity and nature, and love.

The experience blends illustrative 2D pop-up animation, hand-drawn, and stop-motion styles into a richly crafted VR environment. It premiered in the Venice VR Expanded section of the Venice International Film Festival, signaling its artistic and technological significance.
